Issue 533
Good morning,
Did you watch the Total Eclipse on Monday? Protective eyewear was the hottest commodity. 🔥
One of the biggest winners was American Paper Optics. The Shopify merchant sold almost 70 million eclipse glasses (yes, million), double the amount they sold for the 2017 eclipse.
The brand began manufacturing in 2020 and produced 1.5 million glasses daily to meet the anticipated demand, which definitely paid off.
Here’s what you’ll find in today’s DTC:
You’re reading this newsletter along with new subscribers from: Fore Genomics, Butterfields Candies, and Gigi Pip. 👋
You should know: 71% of shoppers still prefer retailers over shopping direct to consumer… 🙃 Does that mean you should abandon the DTC ship? Not at all…
But here’s what you should do: give shoppers what they really want — options. Brands adopting a hybrid DTC and Where-to-Buy model are seeing a 10-20% bump in sales. 👀
Here’s the hybrid model lowdown: 👇
Dive into ChannelSight’s report to see how shifting to a hybrid model could be your next smart move. Because who doesn’t want happier customers and better sales?

Meta is rolling out Opportunity Score, a new metric for evaluating Facebook and Instagram ad campaigns, ad sets, and ad setups.
Opportunity Score is measured on a scale from 0 to 100. The higher your score, the more well-optimized your ad is and the better your chance of performing well.
👉 You can find this through your Account Overview section -> Performance Recommendations section or via campaign table view.
What is Meta’s Opportunity Score based on?
Ads are graded on the following factors:
✅ Relevancy of ad content
✅ Targeting of your audience
✅ Overall structure and setup of your campaigns
If your score is on the low side, it also generates recommendations you can take to up your score, identifying top opportunities and additional opportunities.
The takeaway?
Advertisers who follow Meta’s guidance for running effective ad campaigns can score higher.
Keep in mind, though, that a high Opportunity Score does not guarantee that your ads will perform well. It only gives them a better chance of success.
However, this is a great new feature if you want to quickly see which ad campaigns need more tweaking and glean insights from your high-scoring ad sets.
Have you spotted this new feature in your Ads Account Manager? 👀
*This feature is currently available to some advertisers.
It’s overwhelming to find inspiration for your next campaign when you have 12463 urgent items on your to-do list. 😅
That’s why Yotpo asked marketers from brands like OLIPOP, Ooni, and Cometeer to share the three best email or SMS messages they've received lately. 👀
Why? So you can get your dose of email inspiration by marketers, for marketers in one. 👏 single. 👏 email. 👏 The weekly send eliminates the need for you to go searching, screenshotting, and digging for inspo.
Marketers from brands like Hexclad, Brumate, Dagne Dover, and more have alreadysigned up to receive Is Typing… to learn from the best in email.
