š” Louis Vuitton and Murakami Celebrate 20th Year Anniversary with A New Collab
Over 20 years ago, fashion house Louis Vuitton partnered with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami on a collection that blended contemporary art and high end design.
Then Creative Director Marc Jacobs asked for a series of bag and accessory designs to showcase in LVās Spring 2003 collection.
The result? One of the most ground-breaking and commercially successful collaborations of all time.
ā
Why this collab worked:
Murakami, known for his unique approach to design, reimagined Louis Vuitton's signature LV logo and gave it a colorful touch.
ā
The result?
The LV x Murakami collection became one of the most talked about partnerships in the early 2000s, and some of the bags were a favorite among celebrities and consumers.
Murakamiās whimsical reinterpretation of the logo injected fun and color with anime-inspired motifs.
ā
Fast forward to nowā¦
The updated colorful campaign stars House Ambassador and actress Zendaya and is inspired by the Japanese term kawaii (meaning cute). The re-edition features over 150 items in 33 different hues.
ā
The takeaway?
Reinvents a classic: Murakami was able to add a playful and vibrant touch to some of LVās most iconic bags like Speedy and the Dauphine. Adding newness attracts customers and collectors of both brands.
Y2K Nostalgia factor: The re-edition collection is bound to attract customers who couldnāt get their hands on the limited edition collection over 20 years ago.
